Just one thing to really comment about, and that’s the guys playing female characters thing.
I don’t know why other people do it, but I do it because I’m (unashamedly) transgender. In my mind’s eye, I see myself as female despite this pesky (though fortunately fairly androgynous) male body, so I play female characters with a couple of exceptions, mostly dwarves. 4th edition female dwarves look better, but DDO takes a more 3rd edition approach, which is…less than attractive, to say the least.
Of course that’s probably not a common reason at all. But I don’t think that many people are necessarily trying to get anything out of it. Some of my male friends have about a 50/50 or 70/30 mix of male/female characters, and I don’t think it has anything to do with attempts to bum items off people. I never really cared one way or another though, so I never asked them.
