You really don’t think it’s worth it to add Icy burst to your best weapon.. say a Wounding of Puncturing Shortsword? I admit it IS a time sink… but is at least a FUN time sink! You are not alone though, LOTS of people do not have the patience and are buying the recipies. I sold 2 for over a million each! I know money is not the KEY to happiness… but with enough money I can have a COPY of the key made!
-
@Lessah: The problem is that for Icy Bust to be effective you must score a crit. It’s not consistent damage on every swing. Being that I might roll a natural 20 to crit with my Dwarf Axe’s I don’t see this as being that great. I am one of those people who don’t have the patience. If I did get the tokens and the recipies for sure I would sell them in a heart beat so that I could buy better stuff that I need from the AH. Monkey is one key to happiness in game and real life
I don’t have the patience or want to take the chance at spending a few hours that may or not may get me the goods to sell. If I want to do something like that I would rather play the new Super Mario Bros on the Wii. Also, in the hours that I spent jumping for coins I could have maybe leveled or got that much closer. However, I am glad that you are enjoying the games and others out there who are having fun. I am just saying that it’s not for me is all. Now if Turbine made quests and you could get XP for a certain amount of coins, etc then that would be another story. Same with I don’t understand doing quests for favor runs unless you are level 20. To be if you are not getting XP, buying selling from the AH, or crafting then time is being wasted in DDO. That’s just me,

I forgot that the icy burst does add an additional d6 of damage. That’s good with the crit bonus and i know stakcing that with another d6 item is good. However, at teh end game most things are immune to crit. I did try the new looks for the eggs. It was fun but i think its impossible to get to lvl 6 Aura and 3 is the highest. I wish the rewards didn’t totally suck. Turbine really wants you to use your 200 points.

People generally do favor when they are higher levels because it’s faster. For example, Proof is in the Poison is a long, grindy quest that’s not really good for time to XP and rather difficult when run at-level. Many people will simply forgo the XP and run it once on elite at high levels for the favor, because it’s a lot easier.
A lot of things at the endgame are crittable, including the many outsiders in the Vale and Amrath and the stuff in the Inspired Quarter; crits are actually a very important factor in DPS through the game as a whole. Even monsters that are immune to crit can still be hit by on-crit properties such as X burst or Maiming (+force damage on a crit). If that’s the case, you’ll still get the added damage from the burst, but your weapons base damage is not multiplied as usual. It’s this that allows Smiting (save or die for constructs on a crit) to work, despite most constructs being immune to critical hits.
Still, even a small amount of cold resistance can render the icy burst useless and it’s an awful lot of tedium (at least IMO), so I don’t feel bad at all for passing it up.

@Seneca Good to know as I heard a lot of things at end game are immune to critical hits. I am glad you agree it’s too much trouble for the icy burst. I know people do the Favor runs because it’s faster. Just seems like a waste since you miss out on all that XP. I guess if you need it to unlock something then, I dunno.

If you’re looking to level up fast, it pays to hit only the fast XP quests and skip over the rest (Proof is in the Poison, 3 Barrel Cove, Redfang, Desert Caravan, just to name a few with poor time-XP-difficulty ratios).
For example, a person who didn’t care about favor might step out as a level 4 vet, then do korthos real quick for any items they wanted from there (pathfinder’s, archivist’s necklace, etc), then zerg Kobold’s Ringleader 7-8 times, then zerg waterworks several times, maybe STK, then Delera’s again and again…those quests alone can easily rocket you up to 8 or 9 very quickly, without even touching anything else. I could easily see doing that in a single day of powerlevelling.
Personally, I don’t go to quite that extreme because I’m casual enough that the 1750 favor tome is useful and I can only hit up the same quest repeatedly so many times before I get sick of it. There are a handful of quests that I do skip over though — Kobold Assault and Proof is in the Poison, to name two.
I guess everyone has at least a few quests that they can’t stand, though. Stealthy Repossession and The Pit are common “most hated quests” though personally I like both of them…

Spouse Aggro…. What’s that?
Mine’s always playing with me
For XP farming I use:
Waterworks
Gwylans stand
Delerahs chain
Tangle Root
The Pit
VON
Necro (some have great xp, some bad)When farming for XP it’s best to run normal, hard then elite for max.
If I’m “power leveling” I get a PUG and zerg. The groups more of a meat shield than a party. If they die, they die.

I bet the LOTRO and DDO customer service folks are in the same room. Maybe even the same people. And I agree with you 100% on the state of it.
I picked up NWN2 a few months ago when it got down to five dollars over Direct2Drive. Played it for about an hour then uninstalled. Just too buggy, ugly and kinda boring, although I honestly didn’t give it too much of a chance.
I pug a lot even at low levels, but then again I announce my plans to move quickly, keep up and relax. I just take the good with the bad, knowing that I can solo it to success. Ultimately, don’t even need ‘em! But it’s fun to see what they can do and help them get those early experiences.
Recipe 5 gets you icy burst on a weapon, which is a big DPS-doer. You need to update it in a three-step upgrade. It’s nice, but I agree – the ice games just are not for me. It’s been cool to play around on the ice, but the idea of gathering hundreds of coins, getting-buying recipes and such does not appeal to me.
Great work as always, keep it up! And again, nice job Seneca.
