No i am saying by adding hit dice, you can make a normal furry bunny tougher then a lot of mobs. And even tougher then you.
If done wrong it will be like one PC == two guys. Why play anything else if you can be a healer/fighter and also have a fighter with you at all times.
Also you will have other classes want their animal companion. Wiz, Sorc, Pallies, any casting class can take the summon familiar feat. there is a whole slew of spells that tag along for them and a subset of feats then the game is your pet vs the world. Why do anything yourself? when you can have your pet do it all. It can get overwhelming fast.
All that said, it is clear from the different things that have come out that the pieces of the class are being worked on. But turbine has been given flack for a long time over missing classes/races. Why open one’s self up to more?

@Samius: And you point about having a tough fuzzy bunny? It even says in the PH that the pet is a magical one tougher then a normal pet. Fuck all the other classes! Who cares if they get their pet or not. Why would they as they are not a pet class. Dude, why play any class then? I mean one you argue why play a Intima Tank Fighter, when you can get higher AC by not wearing armor. I thought you would be all for adding a new class and getting the impression that you are not for druids. If Turbine didn’t open them selves up the game would still be on mod 6. If an MMO doesn’t consistently add new features to it but then becomes stale and boring. IMO the Druid class is a very special but complex class and it lets good players do something more dynamic. Also, every other MMO is able to bring the Druid class. It’s weak, no pathetic that Turbine has taken so long to being the Druid class, Half-Orc and Gnome Races to DDO. Why they would just want to let gold bars sit in a vault in beyond me!!!

Druids rule, it’s one of the reasons I still play WoW =) If DDO got druids ZOMG that would be soooooo totally completley very awesome. And zomg I want fuzzy bunny form =) Easter is the best ingame WoW holiday….I pretend I actually got bunny form…you can get transformed in to a cute pink bunny. =)Unfortunately WoW’s druid lacks pets. I love D&D’s druids! Oh and WoW druid’s can now cast entangled roots indoors, made that change in last expansion but then they went and made everything aoe tanked so still not using it much.

Actually, the ranger’s animal companion and paladin summon mount are (in PnP) one of the cooler things about those classes. We were running the Red Hand of Doom with two rangers, one druid, and a paladin and we all had Super Mounts.
Anyway, my point is that the druid is only marginally more of a “pet class” than a ranger or paladin.
The devs will have to think carefully about how they implement druids. In DDO’s current form, they stand to be very powerful — they have firewall, heals, offensive spells, and their primary disadvantage of a poor weapon/armor selection is pretty much moot in DDO; their lack of spontaneous Cure spells is also irrelevant because in DDO we use spell points. They get the scimitar, which is one of the better weapons available, and as they get past the low levels most if not almost all will probably wind up in robes with no AC.
Even in PnP, they are one of the few PHB base classes that are as powerful as PrC splashes when pure-classed — no other classes can really claim that. They pack an incredible amount of versatility into a single class. The devs are going to have to think carefully about this one.

Druids and their animal companions go hand in hand. If there wasn’t pets for them it would be a bad thing. Because you just make a battle clr using the the druid limitations.
I also want to say, Sen is right that Rangers and Pallies are animal classes but when was the last time you saw a Wizard that didn’t have his familiar.
So you really think about it dnd has a few classes that are (quote) pet classes.

@Samius We really need to debait this and other topics on my show. Correct rangers to get pets and I find it week that Turbine just made it tinto a spell to sommon a wolf. I belive back in the and edition days at level 8 at the discretion of the DM they got one. Pally’s got a hourse at lvl 5 in second edition but there are not any mounts in this game. Just like the Holy Advenger at early levels and not the holy sword. Again Turbine would need to put in the Find Familiar spell. Ok, with all that said! This cast is about teh FUCKING DRUID CLASS!!!!!! Not any other class, why are we getting off topic?? LOL
@Ryan: Damn stright man, I want my Hybrid Dragon Orca with 10D10 fang attack! LMAO

Druids can wear hide, but it’s pointless. Most clerics at high levels, even with full plate, can’t even manage to a worthwhile AC. Now chop off the difference between full plate and hide and the Druid is in even worse shape. Unless you like the looks, or find some Hide with a good property on it, there would be no reason for them not to just ignore AC and wear easily changeable cloth armor.

I can’t wait until the day druids come to DDO. The only problem I see with the earlier post by Seneca regarding Scimitars…Druids in pnp cannot use metal armor/weapons or else they have the penalty as noted in the cast. The exception is in the Forgotten Realms campaign. Druids that follow the Goddess, Meiliki are able to use metal armor/weapons (within proficiency limitations) as they are considered more of a battle druid. Unfortunately Forgotten Realm dieties do not exist in DDO, so it would be interesting to see how that part of the druid plays out.
-
@Sylvurdragon Thanks for your comments!!! It would be a problem because just like we have wooden shields, they could implement wood Scimitars. Thewy would get a -1 to hit and damage as in PnP but wiht that Druid spell that turns wood to metal, then it would’t be a problem. Plus you would rarley be attacking in normal form with melee anyways.
