That’s funny!
RE my casualness… 4 – 8 hours a week could be about an average estimate for my game time; however recently it’s been at 0. BTW, your guest’s analysis is shit (I suppose it’s really just a off the cuff opinion). I have many children, dont “throw skittle at them” (in fact, they are moderately well rounded… excel in school and can physically perform), and still don’t like theme park mmos. It’s also a shit analysis because gespenst sounds like a power gaming god, yet he doesnt seem to like sandbox games. Your friend is just making a straw man argument.
You know me, I’m pro playing whatever you enjoy… that’s key. For me, the more theme park an mmo is, the less fun it is because options are limited, which is not fun for me. In terms of why people play sandbox versus not, I’ve highlighted this repeatedly, AND I KNOW I’M RIGHT, because I fucking ask people.

If he was, he missed the mark by a mile. Aside from that, I didnt think he was attacking ME, but his assertion was baseless and incorrect. Essentially, it SEEMS (and this comes from asking players), that gamers who play sandbox PVP games TEND to be those players who are willing to lose in game items, whereas theme box players are not. And note that PVP is bold in the previous statement. There are definitely people who like sandbox games, but do not like pvp. This population is largely evident in Xsyon, and certain minecraft servers. Another issue that usually separates pvp sandbox players from theme park players, is that players of all skill levels can compete in pvp in sandbox games, whereas with theme park games that is less common. There are quite a few people that cannot stand being lowest man on the battlefield.

You are referring to the WillMan. I agree with him that a lot of people who play sandboxes play for 6-8+ hours plus a day and they want to grind out all the skills. They have a reserve of cash and items built up. If they get ganked, what they would lose in the battle would probably be a weeks worth of cash and loot. Some people out there may claim that they are hardcore but they don’t release because of their play time, their loss is not much of a loss.

@Yak: time for you to try Darkfall the right way. You play with me, and you will learn that what you just said is not accurate. While Darkfall is not the sandboxiest, it will who you how it really feels in full loot pvp… that it can be done very well. The people that have given this a try and honestly rage quit after losing items are those who fucked up and stepped away from the bank with everything they had by accident. And if after a week this happens to you and you quit… that’d still be crazy.
They have a reserve of cash and items built up. If they get ganked, what they would lose in the battle would probably be a weeks worth of cash and loot.
Grinding in dfo for items is NOTHING like running dkp raids and then losing an item. Lose a purple epic in WoW is far more damning than losing a similar purple in a game like dfo. How do I know, because I’ve fully experienced the time sink involved with each.
I’d say the same is likely true of Mortal Online… will be able to definitively answer that question soon. I might have to get willman on my show and grill him. Because if he’s played like i have (and I’m casual) then there’s no way you can equate item grind in your average theme park to dfo. -

Hey! New cast!
It’s amazing, i love swtor so much I’ve not really been into much internet chit and simply enjoying the f’ck out of this game. I don’t care who thinks what. I have a game that has got my full free time attention and i couldn’t give 10 rat ass’s what anyone thinks. I still love reading Ryan Rants though.
Yeah i was thinking any free time i have swtor consumes it and then it consumes more then i should let it so haven’t really been going to forums and stuff, heck not much internet at all and i love it. lol
Yak, i almost rolled a toon on your server, but you know, already established on another server with friends in a guild, i might still, if i do I’ll let you know. Appreciate the invite.
All casts i listen to lately are swtor casts and I’ll give this one a listen no doubt. I was a huge kotor fan back in the day and Bioware kudos to them, i was skeptical but they proved me wrong, i couldn’t be more pleased, and of course I’ll never doubt you again my lord.

I am definitely an anti social social gamer unfortunately I Had so much fun with Lost Legions it kinda made me anti pug. Been running around Harbinger tried the dark side got to level 6 then jumped onto a Jedi Consular omg its so much fun think im going to play another one I have an 8 on Elysium that im going to make Shadow instead of Sage cause its just so much fun to play. Thats what I was telling the guy on Ryan’s cast, yes to me speaking up for things a game needs is important I think gaming is a hobby that many people invest in me included so if there is something that makes my time and money invested more worth it I will speak up. I just do it realistically I do not believe that everything I do will benefit a game or be added but I will speak up about what I would spend money on. Another thing is being negative helps no one, I don’t mind being a bitch when needed and even trolling at times but I have gotten more done in games when I am just to the point without snark or saying something sucks.
Game I am looking forward to: marvel online and to be honest I am looking at DDO’s wrath of Lolth just because I have waited 5 years for them to release druids so part of me really wants to consider going back to play it though right now im all swtor baby.

Nice cast Yak, I’m glad you are letting the SOE thing go.
WillMan, I am a sandbox mmo player, my daughter is on the honor roll and if you ever want to compare w-2′s I think you will be destroyed. The company I own also employs 30 people so I feel like I am a productive member of my community. You shouldn’t generalize, actually you might not want to speak.

So that’s what a podcast that doesn’t go on forever sounds like… Just to clarify, the reason why I hold Eve on a higher esteem than WoW was because I feel like it brought new and interesting things to the genre, while WoW just improved on some things like UI and general cohesion.
Also, the reason why L2 was free was because I played it during beta. I’ll admit I only gave Vanguard about a week. In all fairness, I did say a lot of bad stuff about Darkfall, but I definitely will defend small budget games like that since they are trying to bring something original to the genre.
